All About
| The work investigates geological processes above and below ground. I have long had a fascination with physical geography and maps. Having grown up in Cornwall, a place where there is a wealth of very different landscapes I was immediately interested, fascinated and amazed, not just by its beauty but the stories the landscape has to tell. In 2001-2002 I participated in the MA Contemporary Visual Arts program at Falmouth College of Arts. I took this opportunity to explore my interest further. This resulted in a collection of fabricated core samples titled 'Deposits'. When the MA had finished I started to look more closely at maps and the information that they contained. After many experiments with different materials and processes I started to reconstruct landscapes from different parts of the maps. These sculptures interpret exogenic processes for example, erosion and weathering. Last summer I started experimenting with a digtial camera, taking photographs of the core samples I made at the end of my MA. The outcome has been a series of images titled 'Earth Stories'. |
